PCA Redeems Soccer Trophies

THE PATRIOTIC CITIZENS OF AMUZI (PCA), REDEEMS THE AMUZI PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHIES*

May 12th 2020: It is a GOOOAAALLL…..GOOOAAALLL! Screamed the renowned commentator Mr Kennedy Onwunali as the diminutive indefatigable white shirted number 2 player for Umuowasi, Mr Shedrack Njoku, in a spectacular fashion, shook inside the Izuoha gaol net, for the only goal of the match, in the first half of the final match, on December 30, 2019. It feels like long ago, but all was relieved today, when the most popular Amuzi soccer competition trophies were redeemed, with the hero of the match Mr Shedrack Njoku present. The top 3 teams received their cash awards, and all present were well entertained, Others present at today’s fun but memorable event were the PCA CWC led by its Chairman Mr BC Nwachukwu, Chairmen of the villages, teams reps, and representatives of Ahiazu Mbaise Referees Association. It would also be recalled that the tournament, which was sponsored by Amuzi sons and daughters and friends, from across the world, had Umuodu placed 3rd, behind Umuowasi and Izuoha. 

The first placed team, Umuowasi received N100,000 naira,  Izuoha the second placed team got N70,000 naira, while the third placed team Umuodu got N30,000. According to all who spoke at the event, there were expressions of gratitude, appreciation, for the competition, and the stronger bond and unity among brethren and villages, it engendered.

The convener of PCA Professor Eddie Oparaoji had said at the onset of the tournament that,    “..We hope it will accomplish the purpose for which it was instituted, which includes to be fun for our holidaying youths and families and be additional incentives for our people to come home at Christmas time.” Professor Oparaoji commented further that, “.. It was also intended to strengthen and re-energize Uhi to greater developmental heights, and propagate the positive outcomes of youth athletic involvement, as shown by research, which include increased academic performance, psychological and social benefits, as well as decreased violent crimes, illicit drug use and various anti-societal crimes.” .
