2019/2020 PCA Soccer Competition

2019/2020 AMUZI PREMIER LEAGUE SOCCER COMPETITION OVERVIEW

The 2019/2020 Amuzi Premier Soccer League has formally ended with the retrieval of the Championship trophies, from winners. The champions Umuowasi team got N100,000, Izuoha the second placed team received N70,000 while Umuodu the third place winner received N30,000 in exchange for their trophies.  The competition which kicked off on 11/24/2019, was amongst the ten villages in Amuzi and it was organized by the Patriotic Citizens of Amuzi (PCA). The finals which was played in the presence of the PCA Convener Professor Eddie Oparaoji and the former 2 times Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Education Commissioner for Imo State Professor Viola Onwuliri ended with Umuowasi hoisting the Championship trophy.

In her comments prior to awarding the winning trophy to Umuowasi she said, “I am elated to do the honor of handing this very prestigious trophy to you Umuowasi team representing Umuezeagu – my maternal home at the finals, I congratulate you and will always pray for you to grow into very admirable adults that fear God and respects humanity. This trophy is another little step that you have taken towards greatness.”

At the commencement of the tournament the Convener Professor Oparaoji had said that it is his hope that “good sportsmanship, statesmanship and great family values would be inculcated and exhibited”, he was not disappointed as the teams never failed to put God first prior to every game.

VICTORY LAP:

The Champions, Umuowasi team, as is the local tradition, after taking the cup, started victory lap from one village to another showing off their highly coveted prize, to prominent Amuzi citizens. They were guests of the PCA Convener Prof. Eddie Oparaoji at his Oparaoji Royal Manor. He promised to continue to do his best to ensure better opportunities and quality of life for them, and urged them to continue to be of good behavior.

TROPHY RETRIEVAL CEREMONY:

On May 12, 2020, the trophies were finally retrieved. It was fun and entertaining, and PCA took notes on what can be improved upon come next season. The PCA Central Working Committee (CWC), Chairman Chief BC Nwachukwu and Chief Bona Ogu, were on hand to officiate the occasion. The teams commended the PCA for a well organized and peaceful tournament.

THE TEAMS:

Overall 10 Amuzi Villages teams participated in the tournament, namely; Umuowasi, Izuoha, Umuodu, Umuochamoko, Umuokoro, Umuokazi, Umuhu na Loghocho, Ako-na-Ojibo, Umuofor, Umunnanwe.
