AMUZI FUTURE GOT BRIGHTER AS SIX STUDENTS BAG PRESTIGIOUS ECUDOMEF 2023 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

Amuzi, Ahiazu-Mbaise, Imo State Nigeria; December 31, 2023: The Eze Cletus and Ugoeze Dorathy Oparaoji Memorial Education Foundation (ECUDOMEF) recently awarded her annual scholarship to the best six (6) students from a scholarship examination. The scholarship which has been in place for over thirty years has benefitted over 400 students. To qualify to sit and be selected for the award the student must be either a citizen or a qualified resident of Amuzi, Ahiazu-Mbaise of Imo State. This year’s (2023) winners are, Wisdom Ujobundu from Ako-na-ojibo, Kizito Chizitere Ibe from Umuofor, Miss Winner Ujobundu from Ako-na-ojibo, Chizitere Madu from Umuokazi, Chidera Anozie from Umuofor and Chidinma Ndugbu from Umuofor

The ECUDOMEF Scholarship was founded in 1990, initially as Amuzi Scholarship Scheme, which then changed name following the death of HRH Eze Cletus Oparaoji, the visionary behind the scheme, in 1997, as a platform for educational advancement and human resource development, through award of scholarships to deserving students. It is noteworthy that over 400 Amuzi students have received the ECUDOMEF Scholarship since inception and have gone to become very valuable and productive members of our community, society, in various trades and professions.

The 2023 awards ceremony was preceded by a Mass at the St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Amuzi, celebrated by His Lordship Bishop Simeon Okezuo Nwobi, who was also the Chief Celebrant. Among the several priests who assisted the.bishop were the Parish Priest Rev Fr Dr Peter Osuagwu and a former beneficiary of the scholarship Rev Fr Alex Ihenebo. At the mass, ECUDOMEF made Thanksgiving offerings, and its management team, the students and parents received special blessings from the Bishop. The Bishop and the parish priest subsequently visited and prayed for the souls of Eze Cletus and Ugoeze Dorathy Oparaoji’s by their grave side

During the award ceremony MC’d by Prof Nwamaka Oparaoji and Mrs Chidinma Onwuliri, various speakers, including Board members, made inspiring comments to the scholarship recipients. The focus of their comments were on the ‘courage to step out’. Those who spoke were, Barr Emma Njoku, Engr George and Dr Mrs Ngozi Nwigwe, Dr Ijeoma Dozie, Mr Uche and Dr Mrs Uloma Nwigwe, Ms Benita Njoku, Hon. Uche Chris Agomuo, and Mr Ifeanyi Ehiemere
Another section of the program consisted of Children’s book reading challenge, sponsored by Ms Chibuzo Nwigwe, intended to excite the Children, who turned out in their numbers, to reading. The section was moderated by trio of Vanessa, Emeka Jr. and Chikaima Dozie.


Reacting to the successful outcome of the 2023 program, the founder of the program Professor Eddie Oparaoji said, “We wish to commend our Chair and former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Professor Viola Onwuliri, our main sponsors Dr Emeka Oparaoji, and Ms Chibuzo Nwigwe (both Oparaoji grand children), all members of our Board of Trustees and management team represented here by, Engr George and Dr Mrs Ngozi Nwigwe, Professor Nwamaka Oparaoji, Dr Ijeoma Dozie, Ms Benita Njoku, Professor Ig Onyeocha, Mrs Gertrude Anya, Hon. Uche Chris Agomuo, the parish Cathecists Mr Isaac Izunwanne, Mr Eugene Osuji, and the officiating Priests. I wish to also especially commend posthumously our pioneer board Chairman Late Professor Celestine Onwuliri, who gave this organization a rock solid foundation on which it stands today”.
Other notable personalities who attended the event were Barr and Mrs Emma Njoku, Hon Sam Otuibe, Dr Jude Iheoma, Dr Victor Chilaka, Mr and Mrs Dozie Onwuliri, Rev Fr Mathias Ndulaka and Mrs Emily Agu among others.
