THE PATRIOTIC CITIZENS OF AMUZI (PCA) PARTNERS WITH THE WEST AFRICAN COLLEGE OF NURSING ON THE HISTORIC “OZONDU (Face Mask) FOR ALL” PROJECT
Imo State Nigeria, May 29, 2020: The Patriotic Citizens of Amuzi (PCA), a nongovernmental organization based in Amuzi, Ahiazu-Mbaise of Imo State, received valuable support from the West African College of Nursing (WACN) as it is set to launch “Ozondu”, a brand of locally produced face mask, and distribute them, free, to all members of the community at risk of exposure to COVID-19.
The WACN, is a specialized agency of the West African Health Organization (WAHO) – an International Health Organization with headquarters in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. The WACN, according to the President of the Imo State Chapter, Mrs Catherine Otuibe, would provide the health educational and training resources for sensitizing the ten villages of Amuzi, on how to properly use and care for Ozondu (Face Mask). Their first activity on arrival was to put the Ozondu to the “candle blowing test”, which it passed. This simple method determines reasonably if a mask is protective or not. If you cannot blow out a candle while wearing a mask that means it is a protective mask.
It would be recalled that recently the PCA branded the Face Mask, as “Ozondu”, which means “life saver” in Igbo language. The group is now set to launch the “Ozondu for All” initiative, to provide face masks against COVID-19, for her citizens resident in the community at risk of exposure. This would historically make Amuzi, the first fully masked African community against COVID-19.
The Chairman of the PCA Central Working Committee (CWC), Chief BC Nwachukwu, enthusiastically welcomed the endorsement and commended the WACN for recognizing the historic and public health significance of the “Ozondu for All” initiative. He also expressed hope that this would be an enduring partnership.
The Patriotic Citizens of Amuzi (PCA) Organization was established to work alongside other progressive Organizations or entities to move Amuzi and Amuzians into the global community. It is envisioned that the PCA would reignite dialogue, strengthen and re-energize the name Uhi Amuzi- to mean togetherness, and be a rallying platform to harness all Amuzi resources across the world, and make her an appealing global economic space.
